How did dogs become man’s best friend? In past times, a wild dog would come to a village – hang out for awhile – and decide that they liked being around people. Okay, well, maybe they just came to eat the garbage. But it put canines in close contact with humans for the first time. And the nice ones became known as "Village Dogs." The not-so-nice ones...well, they got eaten.
The Village Dogs that didn’t become dinner were useful in a lot of ways – as a hunting partner, a guard for the homestead, a companion for adults and a playmate for children. In short, Village Dogs had the kind of traits we still value the most in canines to this day – steadfast loyalty, a cheerful, playful demeanor and a strong protector.
This is the kind of wonderful dog we work hard to provide you with at Villagedogs Rhodesian Ridgebacks. First and foremost amongst our criteria for our breeding stock is temperament and character. Yes, certainly the look of the animal is important, but we also want the experience of owning a superior dog to be a pleasurable and long-lasting one for our customers.
And that’s only the beginning of our rigorous process. We only breed form certified Champion stock. Our dogs are extensively shown, throughout Europe, to confirm their top quality breed characteristics...so they are beautiful.
We perform in depth health screening...so they are healthy.
And finally, the puppies are bred by a professional, certified animal behaviour expert and dog trainer – giving them some firm basic training and good social experience...so they are smart.
If you want to be a dog owner, wouldn’t it be wonderful to start with a good-natured, beautiful, healthy, trained puppy? It’s the best start you can imagine for your new companion of the next twelve years or so.
We don’t breed often but when we do, it is from very carefully-chosen bloodlines to further improve the quality of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. So when looking for a good Ridgeback puppy, be prepared to wait a bit. The commercial breeders who offer puppies most of the time are usually offering quantity rather than quality. We work quite the opposite.
